Dutch Louis XV burr walnut cabinet

Dutch Louis XV burr walnut cabinet

An elegant and relatively small walnut root cabinet with a double-curved base cabinet upon clawed feet. The upper cabinet features two doors with slightly recessed cartouche panels decorated above and below with elegant, sculpted rocailles. The undulating shape of the doors’ upper edges is emphasised by the pediment, which follows and reinforces their lines. The upper side of the pediment incorporates five plateaus for placement of a garniture set, and it is centrally decorated with an elaborate sculpted crest.

The double-curved lower cabinet stands upon clawed feet, which are located beneath the diagonally oriented stiles that also follow and emphasise the lower cabinet’s shape. Between the legs is a skirt that loosely mimics the shape of the pediment at the top of the cabinet. The sides of the cabinet are flat and executed in walnut trunk veneer.

The interior of the upper cabinet features four shelves. Below the lowest shelf are four drawers, with a secret fifth drawer hidden behind the two central drawers. The central shelf also features two drawers, as is customary for cabinets of this type.
