Description

A four legged console table attributed to François-Joseph Duret (Valenciennes 1729 – 1816 Paris)

The back legs are volute-shaped and decorated with acanthus, the front legs are straight. All four legs end in so called ‘pieds toupies’. The table is richly decorated with openwork in the frieze and an urn with garlands on the lower joint.

From 1770 onwards furniture described as “goût arabesque” or “goût turc” was very much in fashion.
