These tables rest on three curved legs that are connected by a shelf with a raised edge. The tables are entirely lacquered in black with gold decorations.
The interest in Oriental lacquer furniture originated from the period that the Dutch East-India Company imported lacquered chests and folding screens from China and Japan and lasted for the entire 18th century and even after that. To meet the ample demand, European furnituremakers started to manufacture lacquered objects, of which this charming pair is a good example.
